Share your club’s story
Your club’s story doesn’t need to be complete.
Start with what you know, share what you discover, and allow the story to grow as more people contribute.
Create a page on your club website telling the story of women at your club — from the earliest evidence you can find through to the women who are part of the club today.
What could you include?
Every club story will be different.
You might include:
- The earliest evidence of women playing at your club
- Players and members, past and present
- Competitions, matches and teams
- Captains, committee members and volunteers
- Trophies and traditions
- Photographs and newspaper reports
- Stories and memories from members
- Changes that created new opportunities for women to participate
- The people who helped others to play, compete and belong
You don’t need to find everything.
Start with what you know. The story can grow as you discover more.
Bring the story to life
Photographs, trophies, scorecards, newspaper cuttings, programmes and minute books can all help tell the story.
But some of the most important history may never have been written down.
Talk to members past and present. Ask what they remember. Share old photographs and ask who people recognise.
One memory may lead to another.
Include the present
Your club’s history isn’t only about the past.
The women playing, competing, organising and volunteering today are part of the story too.
Recording their contribution creates a bridge between the women who came before them and those who will follow.
History is not only something we inherit. It is something we continue to create.
Invite others to contribute
Once your story is online, share it with your members and wider community.
Ask:
- Who have we missed?
- What do you remember?
- What photographs or records do you have?
- What should future members know about the women of this club?
Your page can continue to develop as new stories are discovered.
Share it with the world
Once you have created your club story, add the link to the 160 Years of Women’s Golf map.
Each club story becomes another piece of a growing global history of the women who played, competed, organised, volunteered, formed friendships and created opportunities for others.
